There are many derived words and content (science, social studies) words in the newly extended Ayres list sections X, Y and Z that are not specifically tested in the Spelling assessment Manual. You may find the study of these words to be beneficial to your daughter. (See "Spelling Scope and Sequence" on page 419-420.)
Once the student has acquired excellent spelling skills, more language arts lesson time is spent in applying the skills through reading and the writing process. Less time is spent on the formal spelling lesson.
